Aegis Energy Services Lands Prestigious Super 60 Award

As energy prices soar and the public continues to search for “green” alternatives, a Holyoke, MA-based combined heat and power provider shows strong growth over last year with a focus on reducing both costs and greenhouse gases.

HOLYOKE, MA _ Aegis Energy Services, a green energy innovator specializing in Combined Heat and Power systems, was recently honored with a prestigious Super 60 Award presented by the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield.

Aegis Energy Services was recognized in the Total Growth category, specifically highlighting the company’s Powervestors division which allows clients to install high efficiency, energy-saving CHP systems with no capital cost or ongoing expense.

Founded in 1985, Aegis Energy Services is a full service combined heat and power provider that utilizes modular systems to reduce both costs and emissions for medium and large commercial, industrial, and residential customers. Combined Heat and Power (CHP), also known as cogeneration, is an efficient, clean, and reliable technology, which simultaneously generates power and thermal energy from a single fuel source.

Aegis’ unique Powervestors energy program allows clients to take advantage of energy cost savings from an Aegis cogeneration system without requiring a capital investment. Through the host site’s purchase of electricity, at a discount from prevailing utility electrical rates, Aegis is able to amortize the capital cost of the equipment.

The company’s growth is in direct correlation to a weak economy, in which a desire to cut energy costs has caused many to seek out energy alternatives.

“When the economy turned down five years ago, our business took off,” said Lee Vardakas,
President and General Manager of Aegis. “We shield our customers against high energy costs.”

Aegis Combined Heat and Power systems are currently utilized across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, including installations in Western Mass properties managed by the Springfield Housing Authority, Glenmeadow Retirement Community, and the Springfield Jewish Community Center.

The Super 60 Awards, a nearly 25-year old tradition in the Pioneer Valley, serves as a celebration of the depth and diversity of the region’s business community. In recent years, the award ceremony has recognized the region’s nationally-known brands such as Peter Pan, Smith & Wesson, and MassMutual.
